Explaining Channel Catfish Population Characteristics in Ohio Reservoirs

چکیده
Abstract North American fisheries management agencies commit considerable resources to managing reservoir for Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus , which often includes stocking. However, population characteristics vary greatly among reservoirs, resulting in variable and unpredictable fishery quality. We sampled populations 44 Ohio reservoirs with tandem, baited hoop nets understand relationships (density, as CPUE from nets; growth, mean length at age 7; mortality, total annual mortality catch‐curve analysis; size structure, proportional distribution), stocking, the between these (as surface area), predator density Largemouth Bass Micropterus salmoides electrofishing CPUE), productivity chlorophyll‐ a concentration). used multiple linear regression an information theoretic approach select most parsimonious models explaining observed variation density, structure. found that varied our study none of sufficiently explained density. Reservoir interaction but was also important. Small (≤101 ha) had low moderate densities growth uniformly slow; however, larger lower resulted faster growth. Growth increased increased. Total (<0.26) Faster led structures. These outcomes show largest (≥406 are suitable supporting fast large Dense (CPUE > 50 Catfish/net set) slower greater poor Future research natural recruitment could be important

Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus
We used a two-compartment, clearance volume-based model to examine rubidium and cesium Ž . pharmacokinetics in channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus after intravascular administration. We compared the apparent volumes of distribution in the central and peripheral compartments and the intercompartmental and whole-body clearances of both metals at 20.0 8C and 27.5 8C. Biological half-times of Rb we...
متن کاملDetection of channel catfish virus DNA in latently infected catfish.
Channel catfish virus (CCV) disease is an acute haemorrhagic disease in juvenile channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus). While fish that survive primary CCV infection are suspected of being carriers of CCV, little is known concerning CCV latency. In this report, fingerling catfish were infected with CCV by experimental immersion challenge. Infected fish displayed clinical signs of CCV disease, b...
متن کاملPesticide residues in channel catfish from Nebraska.
Channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) were collected in all of the major watersheds in Nebraska during the summer of 1964. Individual fat samples and composite blood samples obtained from these {ish were analyzed to determine the concentrations of residues of DDT and its metabolites (o,P'DDT, p,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDD, and DDE) and dieldrin. A total of 178 fish, collected from 18 sites, were analyzed....
